It was easy to make mistakes in the angle or color of the old logo, which could have had disastrous consequences for their image. The logo became more complicated and more burdensome for the company. What could have motivated the management to choose a new image for 2019? Slack logo evolution The original Slack logo was made up of 11 different colors (yes, that’s right) and the image had a perfect 18-degree angle. The logo was created before Instagram existed, so it was very unique and easy to recognize. The logo was shaped like an octothorp, or the “hashtag”, and was octothorp-shaped. Shortly before Slack was launched in 2013, the company’s initial logo was designed. This tool allows us to communicate with our colleagues and to share photos of dogs. Slack is made up of several people who helped create and sell the Flickr Photo Network. It has quickly gained market value, now exceeding one billion dollars. The company was originally launched in 2014 as a videogame solution. The company’s name comes from the acronym “Searchable Log of All Conversations and Knowledge”, which can be translated into a searchable database of all conversations or knowledge. Slack, an IT tool and a collaboration platform that is used at work, can be described as: It is an internal chat program that allows employees and managers to exchange files and communicate with each other. For the redesigned logo, the designers slightly changed the lettering, adapting them to the stylized octothorpe. The bold sans serif that Slack uses is from the Larsseit family. Moreover, the new emblem is designed to be freely divided into parts, reduced or enlarged. This refers to the main function of the application, a hint of communication and interaction between users. It was associated with the hashtag that was the organizing element of the application, stood before the channels’ names, and quickly found messages.Īfter the redesign, the iconic grille mark disappeared. The first Slack graphic was 100% in line with the concept of a corporate messenger. The letters have lost their rounded corners, although, in general terms, the font is similar to the previous one. The caption has also changed: the name of the program has become black. The main thing is that now it can be placed on any background, not just white. The disappearance of overlapping elements makes the image flat, but designers don’t see this as a significant issue. The new logo embodies the original spirit, although it uses far fewer colors and lacks the usual transparency effect. As a result, the sign became more abstract. After a long creative search, experimenting with different forms, he decided to keep the original octothorpe but change its style. Responsible for the image change was Michael Bierut, creator of the famous Hillary Clinton and Mastercard logos.
